We all have daily activities. Big or small, healthy or unhealthy, Our daily activities define our fitness level. Some of our activities may seem innocent or we may do it unknowingly, but they affect our health and fitness. Apart from eating unhealthy foods and not exercising, activities or habits like biting your nail, sitting down all day etc., also affect your physical health. Breaking from habits may seem hard, but integrating them slowly, in small steps, helps you become a better individual physically, mentally, and socially. Which is why, it is important and necessary to break daily activities that is bad for your health.

1.BITING YOUR NAILS

Nail Biting is a sign of emotional or mental stress. It shows your anxiety level to everybody. This activity or bad habit is mostly done unknowingly. This won’t cause you any physical health issues, per se. But it can make you sick. Hands are a nest for germs, and nails are where they are in more numbers. Chewing or biting on your nails, causes you to consume them into your body, making you sick.

TIPS TO PREVENT THEM:

Notice or Self-observe when you are biting on your nails, so you can work towards a better mean to stress relief. Cut your nails short and coat them with nail polish. Buy a stress ball as a substitute.

2.SKIPPING BREAKFAST & EATING LATE AT NIGHT

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Skipping breakfast, for whatever reason, leads to headaches, low blood sugar and other health problems. You will end up feeling lethargic the whole day, until you have your lunch, where you will overeat to compensate for your breakfast, risking obesity. Eating late at night very often is harmful to the body, as it disrupts the body pattern, causing various health issues. Eating right before bed time, also increases the risk of your physical health. Ordering or having a late night snack, once in a while is harmless, but avoid doing it too often.

Snack on a fruit or yogurt, if you are in a hurry or not too hungry. If you are feeling hungry late at night, drink some water or eat slices of fruits. Make sure to have your dinner early, and not go to bed soon after.

3.USING PHONE AS SOON AS YOU WAKE UP AND BEFORE GOING TO SLEEP

A very common and hard nut to crack is this unfortunate activity. Our phones have become an extension of us. A Negative impact of technology. We are addicted to it. At least most of us are. But this is one habit that we have to conquer, as it has a disastrous impact on our health. Spending too much time on your phone can increase your stress levels, cause sleeping problems and also cause a poor posture. Also, having your phone near your head, while you are sleeping, can cause harmful effects to your brain, due to the possibility of over exposure to harmful radiations or heat emitted by it.

You could check your phone at night, and leave it on the desk, or table that is more than 5 feet away from your bed.

4.EATING JUNK FOOD

While an occasional snack on junk food is harmless, eating too much and too often of junk or processed foods leads to various health problems like obesity, chronic diseases etc., All of us are guilty of this at some stage. That bag of chips or a plate of fries is way too tempting for us. But overcoming this habit is necessary as the health effects are too risky. The average amount of junk food that you can consume in a day is 20g.

5.SITTING DOWN ALL DAY LONG

This comes with most of our job descriptions. Most of us work desk jobs. But that doesn’t necessarily mean we have to sit down the whole day. Sitting at your desk the whole day decreases your levels of physical activity increasing the risks of heart diseases, because this makes you unhealthy.

You could always take breaks in between and take a walk to the canteen or coffee machine. Also, for during lunch, eating out in the open, or at a location away from your desk, also decreases stress.

6.SMOKING AND DRINKING ALCOHOL

Although it is a very common notion that drinking alcohol and smoking are injurious to health, it is an activity that most people do anyway. Most of the younger generation do it out of peer pressure, while the adults do it out of boredom, or stress. Smoking too often, can lead to lung cancer. Any amount or type is harmful to your body, and the ones around you.

Light Drinking is acceptable as it is good for the body. Where as, Heavy or Binge drinking leads to serious medical problems like high blood pressure, liver cirrhosis,cancer and gastric problems to name a few.

TIPS TO PREVENT THEM:

Try cutting down your smoking habit day by day. It is recommended to join a support group during this period. This will help you quit smoking.

Stopping alcohol consumption abruptly can lead to withdrawal symptoms. Hence, for regular alcoholics, it is recommended to join support groups like the Alcoholics Anonymous, who help and support you during this period.

7.STRESS AND ANXIETY

Stress effects all of us in one way or the other. And very frequently at that. It is unavoidable. Everyone have their own way of dealing with stress. Most of us are stressed about work or personal life, or both.

But it is necessary to stay calm and relaxed in this time. Stress affects your body and is potentially dangerous at times. It can cause health problems such as depression, heart disorders, obesity, Skin problems etc.

TIPS TO PREVENT THEM:

Consider joining a Meditation group to bust that stress out. Talk to your support group about your problems; Sometimes a fresh look on the problem gives more clarity to the situation. If nothing is giving you enough relief, consider talking to a therapist or a counselor.

8.EXCESSIVE MASTURBATION

Masturbation is a natural and common activity for all genders. It helps in relieving stress and tension. There are no physically harmful effects of masturbation. However, excessive masturbation can harm your daily routine.
